Gulf Coast Half Marathon TGC Aide Station
TGC is making plans to volunteer for the upcoming Gulf Coast Half Marathon (04/15/12, Sunday) on Pensacola Beach. This will be the 3rd annual event and organizers are expecting ~1,700 runners for what will be the largest field to date. In an effort to adequately staff the aide station TGC is looking for additional personnel to help. Your duties would be simple: help with filling cups with water/sports drink, handing cups to the runners, and then breakdown of the aide station following the event. Time commitment would be up to you, but expect to be around for the bulk of the athletes as they compete the run course. The event starts at 7:00am, you would need to be out on the course prior to that start time (location yet to be determined) so the aide station is ready to serve fluid to the athletes. The course will be open until ~11:00am as some of the slower athletes will be doing ~17:00/mile.
If you are available to help with this endeavor please contact Jules Kariher (secretary@trigulfcoast.org).

TGC Race Database – Kevin Swenson
Club member Kevin Swenson has volunteered to compile a database of destination races and endurance events which club members have completed. This endeavor is meant to serve the club as a whole in that Kevin would be a point of contact for any club member who is interested in learning more about any particular race. So, for instance, if I were interested in wanting to do Ironman Canada and I had some questions about the race (travel, race course, etc…) I would touch base with Kevin and he would refer to his database and tell me which club members have completed Ironman Canada. I would then touch base with those club members and see if those respective members could answers my questions.
This has real potential if the club can build a substantial database to refer to. However, in order to build said database Kevin needs input from YOU!
Follow these SIMPLE steps to send your race data to Kevin:
1 – In an e-mail, list these items for each destination race (any distance) or endurance race (half marathon or longer):
a – Race name
b – Race location (city, state, country)
c – Event distance (i.e. 13.1, 26.2, 70.3, etc…)
d – Year you completed this race
e – Would you go back? YES or NO
f – Rate your experience: 1 – 5 (1 = horrible, 5 = superb)
g – OPTIONAL – short blurb about the event (1 – 2 sentences)
2 – Send your e-mail to Kevin at racesdone@trigulfcoast.org
So, you DO NOT need to pen a formal race report of any sort at all. You simply submit these simple datapoints to Kevin. Hopefully this will be a way in which club members can take advantage of the experiences of other members when it comes to for race planning.
An example of an event I personally submitted to Kevin is as follows:
Great Floridian Triathlon (Clermont, Florida); Ironman; 2010; yes would go back; “no pressure” kind of a day with challenging bike course and good multi-loop run for course support; rate = 4
